About the Lodge

On the beach: supervise kids and be sure to walk on the rocky areas, as there is dangerous sinking sand in several places.

Please conserve water, gas and electricity; it’s part of island life.

No smoking inside please.

See the “kitchen map” of drawer and cupboard contents to locate all kitchen equipment and empty storage space for your supplies.

Heat: There are 7 heat zones controlled by different thermostats. In the summer they are turned off. In the winter, the heat is set at a minimal 55F. Use the arrows to set up or down. The floor heats slowly but dependably so please do not set the heat higher than you need. In the master bedroom, the gas fireplace will heat the room immediately and will go on and off via the thermostat. The thermostat at the bottom of the stairs controls the heat in the floors in the gathering room and living room. If you build a fire in the living room it will heat that room fast and keep it warm if you draw the curtains on both sides. The upstairs dorm rooms and small room at the end of the hall each have their own thermostat. Once the room is heated it will hold the heat for many hours, if not days. If you turn any thermostat on or up, please turn it “off” when you finish with the room and be sure they are all “off” before you leave.

There are three ovens of different sizes. Please use the smallest oven that is adequate for your need. Please use stove hood fans when cooking and be sure stove and oven is off after use.

Dishwasher: run hot water in sink until hot before using dishwasher, no plastic or wood please in the dishwasher.

Ice in bottom of small freezer in laundry room; please leave trays full.

Hot tub: please be sure to close lid when finished or the heater will go off. Bubbles may form when jets are on as a result of body lotions. If tub is not hot or temperature indicator is flashing the electricity may have been interrupted. If this is the case, go to the electrical box under the deck and turn the switch off for 15 minutes. Then turn back on and set temperature. It takes about 1/2 hour per degree to raise the temperature

French doors: down to open, up HARD to close TIGHT. To lock, turn right hand lock knob to the left, then lock knob on left hand door to the right.

Septic system is delicate; please put all oil, grease and fat into can next to stove.

Clean linen, table cloths and towels in laundry room. Please leave all used linen and towels in laundry room and beds where you found them in the two large bedrooms. Be VERY careful when using the bottom trundles as they are uncooperative and surprising in their ups and downs.

Garbage: Garbage pick up is limited to one can and is picked up on Wednesday morning about10 a.m. For this reason it is very important to sort and recycle. Soft food in disposals (no fiberous foods such as onion skins, bones, wire or tinfoil)—be sure to run cold water when in use, switch for the large sink disposal is under sink on the right in the tip out drawer. Small sink disposal switch is located just above the counter in the back splash area. Other real garbage goes only in lined receptacles under double sink and veggie sink, burnable paper in unlined plastic bin under left double sink. Just scrape paper plates and burn in fire place or outside in fire pit. Put rinsed glass, cans and plastic food containers in labeled recycle containers. Bagged garbage goes in the can outside the garage. It will be picked up only if it is at the end of the driveway by the mail box on Wednesday morning.

Music: to play a CD, turn left knob on receiver 2 clicks to “speakers A”. All other settings are in place. (“loudness” button out to “off” position, “Hi Filter” in, “tape A source” in, “tape B source” out, “IF Band narrow” in, “Selection Phono”). On CD player, push black rectangular power button on top left of CD player to turn on. Select number from music index on card then use large black knob on right to dial the number of your selection; push to start. Put your personal CDs in the empty slots numbers 40-50 so you can easily find them to take home with you. To play cassette, only change “Source” from “A” to “B” by pushing “A” out and “B” in and push “Power” on Cassette deck. For Tuner, select “mono.” Leave volume at about 9 o’clock position and control volume by using the control knobs located in the dining room, party room and master bedroom to have music where you want it.

If the power goes out?

Electricity may go off in a storm. Candles in the left segment of the sideboard. If electricity is off more than a few minutes, call 1-888-225-5772 to report. When power is restored, start hot water system and heat by opening heat closet outside just to the right of the garage. All of the lights will be off. Push the button on the little white plastic control box on the right hand wall just inside the door to start system. The thermostat digital window will then show a number. If the digital window shows any number other than “40”, flip open little white door on right of this panel and push up arrow until “40” appears in the window which is really 140, the "1" is built in. If the septic system is beeping, push the red blinking button to reset. If the alarm goes off again, report malfunction to Jerry Stonebridge: 331-6101. When power is out, stove elements may be lit with a match but oven is inoperable. Hot tub may also go off. To reset, find gray power panel under the deck, flip switch to off, WAIT 15 minutes before flipping back on. Reset temperature on tub to desired heat. Most power outages are brief, only a few minutes. If the power is out more than 1/2 hour, start the back-up generator.

There is a back-up generator on wheels in the garage which will restore power to the refrigerators, freezer, master bedroom, gathering room, stove and outlets in the kitchen. Open the garage door, oblong button to the right as you enter from the kitchen. Start the generator by pulling the handle to start the gas motor, let it run a minute to warm up, plug in the tail from the panel, wheel it outside, chain it to the fence (many are stolen during power outages), and flip the switches in the auxiliary generator panel to "on" position. The full gas tank will last about 8 hours.

If the water does not get hot: it is because the power has been interrupted and system needs to re-started. See directions above. The hot water is an “on demand” system and will never “run out.”
